i though of this stratigy with mixing gear right? well it turns out it worked fighting a lvl 30 recommended challenge node gauntlet boss and won at lvl 25! sorry about the camera angle and my head getting in the way when rapidly pressing A. here is the stuff mario and luigi had equiped.

Mario:
Balm Wear (DEF +90, no special effect)
Tight Belt (50% Spent SP Shrinker. Reduces SP cost for all special attacks)
Bro Socks (100% DEF Burden Booster. Raises defense while holding a KO'd Bro)

Luigi:
Master Wear (SP +20 DEF +140, Special Amplifier. Increases Special Attack power 25%)
Gumption Socks (Auto Reviver. Revives you after 1 turn if your KO'd!)
Daredevil Boots (Double Dare Dealer. 2x attack power but a hit KOs you!)
