After a £4.2 Million overhaul and what felt like an eternity of waiting, world-famous LNER Gresley A3 4472 'Flying Scotsman' finally returned to steam in January in BR Brunswick Green livery as 60103. The reawakening of such an iconic legend sparked numerous press, TV and media releases to welcome back this British beauty. She began running trials on the East Lancashire Railway in January, before being repainted and making an official 'Inaugural Run' on 25th February before thousands of enormous crowds. I on the other hand, decided to wait until the A3 came to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in March. But somewhere deep inside me, i knew i couldn't resist capturing the Light Engine movement beforehand. Up until this point, i had actually never seen 'Flying Scotsman' in active service, as indeed neither have many others. I had initially planned to film at Eaglescliffe Station but due to the overwhelming popularity of 'Scotsman', a smaller area would be a better approach. Whilst driving to the nearby Yarm Station, i saw the incredible viaduct spanning over the town. Pulling over and setting up, the viewing area was soon packed with onlookers waiting... Due through Yarm Station at 18:21, 60103 took us all by surprised when she glided over the arches nearly five minutes early. Sadly not all of us got the shot we were dreaming of, but i managed to press the record button just in time. I hope you all enjoy the video. Stay tuned for more Scotsman Steam on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway very soon. Feel free to comment and subscribe!
