Saturday 24th May 2014 saw the Swaledale Festival kick off with LNER Gresley A4 Pacific 4464 'Bittern' hauling three round trips on the Wensleydale Railway. The A4 arrived on the 22nd May after her jaunt at the NYMR Spring Gala. The lineside and trains were packed with people who wanted to see this magnificent beast tread Wensleydale metals. Firstly, 'Bittern' is seen at Leyburn Shawl with the outward journey of the 09:30 service to Redmire; then once more at Bedale Station with the return leg of the same service.
