2015 marks the 45th anniversary of the making of one of Britain's best-loved films for familes: 'The Railway Children' and to celebrate, many heritage railways are planning specific exhibitions and events to commemorate this remarkable achievement. Based on the 1906 novel by E. Nesbit, the book has many adaptations including film, stage and television productions as well as making a few ordinary steam locomotives stars in their own right. The 45th anniversary is not of the book itself but of Lionel Jeffries' classic 1970 film, mostly shot on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. In order to mark this event, the KWVR and the staff at Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon agreed to cosmetically overhaul GWR 57xx 0-6-0PT 5775 to the fictitious ochre livery it wore during filming. Also present in the main Collection building at the site were two other locomotives that featured in the 1968 BBC Television Adaptation: GNR Stirling Single 4-4-2 No. 1 and personal favourite BR J72 0-6-0T 69023 Joem, the latter undergoing its winter maintenance. In this video, there is also a quick look at some other exhibits with aren't related to the film. I hope you all enjoy the video. Make sure you attend a 'Railway Children' themed event at a heritage line near you if you can. Feel free to comment and subscribe! P.S. Look out for something very special featuring 69023 'Joem' not too far into the future...
