In April 2016, The North Yorkshire Moors Railway signed a contract with the Class 4 Locomotive Preservation Trust that the group's BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4T 80136, would be restored at Grosmont and run on the line for the duration of its ten-year boiler ticket. The locomotive was moved by road from its former base at Crewe Heritage Centre to New Bridge near Pickering, and was actually hauled to Grosmont by sister locomotive 80072, visiting for Eastern from the Llangollen Railway. The NYMR already has one 4MT 2-6-4T of its own, 80135, most famous for running in BR Brunswick Green livery. The majority of the engine was dismantled upon arrival bust most components were around 75% complete. In the space of five months, the standard tank underwent a rapid reassembly and paint job, before being steam tested at the end of July. After a couple of minor issues, 80136 entered service on 23rd August in BR Lined Black livery with Late Crest. It is planned in due course to certify the engine to run up to Whitby and Battersby with TPWS, AWS and OTMR equipment. I hope you all enjoy the video. 80136 is performing very well so far and is deemed by crews as the perfect engine for the NYMR. Congratulations to all who worked on and funded her overhaul. 80135 Next! Feel free to comment and subscribe!
