Day one of Steam Dreams' 'The Highlands and Islands' railtour kicked off on Thursday 9th May. Capitalising on the success of the recent 'Great Britain XII' railtour, the specials would see steam running up and around the Scottish Highlands, including visits to Inverness, Dunrobin and Kyle of Lochalsh. Motive power for the northern jaunt from York was LNER Gresley A3 60103 'Flying Scotsman', with fellow LNER stablemate Thompson B1 61306 'Mayflower' taking the train on into the Highlands. Here is a quick handheld shot of the two locos double-heading through Darlington, getting back into their stride after slowing for the station's avoiding line. I didn't have much time to prepare for the shot as I had work commitments beforehand, and if flexibility allowed I would probably have gone to York or Durham if possible. The wet weather and wind did little to improve conditions, so I apologise for any shakiness. Please be aware that i was also stood behind a fence in a public car park. DO NOT TRESPASS on the railway. I hope you all enjoy the video. Whilst the clip is far from perfect, i did enjoy seeing 'Mayflower' for the first time. Feel free to comment and subscribe!
