LNER Peppercorn A1 60163 'Tornado' was back out on the mainline this weekend at the head of the A1 Trust's 'Yorkshire Pullman' service from London King's Cross to Scarborough and return. Not only would this see 'Tornado' running over the Scarborough branch for the first time in a while, but also one of the first runs outside of London with a full rake of stunning British Belmond Pullman coaches. Therefore, I hopped on the service train down the line to York to grab some footage. 60163 is first seen crossing the River Ouse at Scarborough Bridge just east of York station on the outward leg. I was initially dissapointed with the river boat sneaking its way into view but the end result is still pretty good, despite the dull weather. Unfortunately, a miscommunication about a water supply at Scarborough meant 60163 left the seaside resort 48 minutes late. Various point failures and an apparent fire further south also left York station in a muddle. The weather had gone from bad to worse by the time 'Tornado' finally arrived back (and then I was bowled by a Class 91), where she is seen making a brief stop before returning south towards the capital. The train was later diverted via Leeds and Wakefield to avoid the difficulties on the ECML. I hope you all enjoy the video. Despite mixed results from my efforts it was still nice to spend a day in York and see 'Tornado at the head of the Pullmans. Feel free to comment and subscribe!
