LNER Peppercorn A1 4-6-2 60163 'Tornado' unfortunately spent most of it's tenth anniversary year sidelined for heavy repairs after she shed a piece of inner motion on a 90mph railtour to York in April 2018. Although this setback caused many of the celebrations to be postponed or cancelled, The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust and Nene Valley Railway worked hard to get 60163 back up and running as soon as they could. This was finally achieved in December, and following running-in on the NVR and a visit to the Wensleydale Railway (see separate video), 'Tornado' could at last return to what she does best: thundering up and down Britain's national network. 60163's first railtour of the year was 'The Auld Reekie' from Doncaster to Edinburgh via Leeds and Newcastle. Here, 'Tornado' is seen at Beaumont Farm, just north of her birthplace in Darlington, getting back into her stride after a speed restriction through the town. The return journey was hauled by BR Class 55 'Deltic' 55009 'Alycidon'. I hope you all enjoy the video. Many thanks to all of the staff and volunteers who put in countless hours to get this beauty back up and running. Feel free to comment and subscribe!
